Wouw, lots of time
has passed from the last message of mine. In this timespan, so much of things happened.
Let'me try to tell them shorty.
In 4. November of 2007 we went to Safranbolu. Although it was cold we had so much
fun. Safrabolu is a romantic city.. You feel the sense that you're walking in the
streets of an Ottoman old city. Both the houses and citizens of Safranbolu help
you to feel it. And of course you must try the turkish delights with Safran.
Safran is a very sophisticated flower which can paint thousands times of it's weight
easily. It has a special color which can be used in many areas : food,paint industry
etc.. So i suggest you to travel there.
Last week Bilisim 07 congress has done in Sheraton. Many important people of IT
world were there. Many meetings, advertisement of products and announcements has
been released. As you may know, i'm interesting in data mining concepts and applications.
In the first day of congress i've attended to an announcement session. The subject
was revealing the OSYM preference profile by data mining techniques. They used Clementine
Software of SPSS. Their work was not unique but theri vision was somewhat different
because of their way of look to the problem. They used associaciton algorithm but
in a different fashion. As a result we gain lots of important information from unimportant
dataset.

As i informed before,
my thesis is about web based data mining. This subject has a background of 1960's.
But until millenium it stayed as a hifh-end technology for especialy people who
got Ph.D. But by the help of Microsoft we'll see new horizons on data mining related
applications.
Microsoft has founded the OLE DB for Data Mining infrastructure at 2000. This innovation
gaved us to communicate with other data mining app. vendors' packages on the same
way. The same row schemas, same rowsets and so on.. Even we have an API to
program and embed data mining solutions in our applications. OLEDB for DM
is a bridge between client apps and data mining packages of various vendors.

A long and funfull
summer holiday has ended. Now we are here at Hacettepe and lots of challanging works
are waiting to face me now. But beyond this, this year is my master thesis year.
I have chosen web based data mining as my master subject. Initials begun in this
week. During my thesis progess i will write here every steps of my life and
the difficulties i faced by the time.
By the way, i have started to listen Poets Of The Fall. They are a group from Finland
which make soft rock and their music is awosome!. Here i'm giving you the link

I learned the importance
of FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) once more in the last week. When you try to make
a sound editin program you also need a tool of calculating and also drawing the
results on the screen. In our sound editing software, we used Exocortex's FFT calculating
module but it had a little bug but it was open source one fortunately and
then we fixed the bug to take indefinite numbers of float arrays. This was a requirement
due to the editing big files. And then we had a misunderstood of interpreting the
FFT analysis of sample sound data. It's awfull because professor got angry and disappointed.
After a while we learned how to interpret it and the main goal of FFT. So i suggest
to learn FFT to every student of computer engineering. Because it's been almostly
used in all areas of computer science. Ex: Winamp Spectrum
Another hot spot of this week was the surface computing of Microsoft. This new technology
brings the ability of controlling the computer like drawing on a sketchpad. It'
maybe not useful for end-user but it's a very delicious thing for Hotels, Pollice
offices, federal business operations, network adminstrators and so on...
By the way i have 3 projects, 2 homeworks and lack of sleep. I will go the Muğla
in OSYM Mission at 14 June.

This week i involved
in lots of projects and started to build my ultimate web project: sciencebank.net.
It's aim is to serve lots of office documents, articles, multimedia contents, presentatios
and of course comments about them. When it'll completed it will be the first web
site in his class. So i suggest you to visit it in 15 days.
As i mentioned about, sciencebank.net will consist a new technology like AJAX.
I spent two weeks to learn how to program new controls of ASP.NET 2005 and Ajax.
It's a wonderful technique which allows you to build interactive web pages without
'postback'. Postback is the full refreshment of the page you visit. Ajax based web
pages behave like your windows or linux applications in your hard drive. Here
are some examples: Google Earth, Gmail, Msn Live Mail. This sites are the sites
which benefit the AJAX tech. If you're interested in ASP.NET AJAX you can find lots

By the way my information retrieval homework will use Protege 2000 ontology framework.

Last weekend i
was in Eskişehir. In this trip, i realized that Eskisehir is a wonderful place for
both students and young people once more. I suggest to visit it for students who
have never been.
In my opinion Eskişehir is a very romantic city. Porsuk river gives spectecular
image to the city and mass transit is well controlled by both tramvay and buses.
It takes 3 hours to go Eskişehir and now speed trains will start to service which
will reduce this time into 1 hour. Every one of five person is student and this
gives a very nice image to the city.
This week one of my master target is to build a software which will show the data
of sound (.wav file) and then help to label the phonemas or the words in the sound
file and relate them in exact seconds or miliseconds. To achieve this i'm now trying
to find a solution. It's now good but need to improved. When it's over i will tell
the other details.

After a boring
weekend, i'm ready to learn new things about computer science. But it's a good idea
to speak about KPDS exam which lots of people taken on this Sunday.
Maybe it was the most not understable exam i've seen. It took 180 minutes and the
reading parts were terrible. This exam's results can be used in various areas such
as academic career, officials and maybe more... Hundred questions are asked
to you as 180 minutes allowed to answer. This year's May term was hard as usual.
So i can suggest for the students who will apply master programmes, applying to
a bit less hard exam named UDS for the October term. For Hacettepe, 80 points is
required to be a research asistant but if you will do only master you may pass at
60 points. This is up to you.
Another eye-catching subject is the new movie of Spider-Man. I watched it in Metropol
Cinema's with at least 200 people at Sunday. I defienetely suggest it for the adventure
and spectecular effects. Sam Raimi (Director) is a very different director as directing
a highly animated movie in daylight. So this differs him from others. Making an
animation or cg movie at daylight is more and more complex thing than the others.
I'l will write a brief information of Intel Core and Core2 Duo processors' differences
for the new laptop buyers and give a link of detailed article about this subject
in the week.

Well, i was in
Muğla in last few days and done nothing for computer science or technology. But
i did a very valueable thing for my mind. I formatted it!
Clean air, beautiful nature, lovely sea, angry wind, and of course my cat Mischa
served me a wonderful week. This time i have enough energy for making new leaps.
One month after the finishing schools i will be in a project about data mining.
The theory and application will meet the power of the Web and .NET This week's
technology preview will be a part of today's hot topics. Semantic Web. Semantic
web is a complicated term that means the searched queries' results will be returned
by ontological inferences in the sense of both mean and relation. It also the amiral
ship of Web 3.0 concept.
I may give another examples of semantic web but now i've to work on SHOE. Simple
HTML Ontology Extensions. This tecnique
is no longer in use but it's my prezantation subject.

After lots of
hours in googling, i found a solution to parse PDF file in .NET. But it needs a
bit much of space for library files. But the speed is good. In my sciencebank.net
project our aim is to make a module to extract pure text data from PDF Files and
index them in database.
By the way; i met a library named DotLucene. This library is originally derived
from Java based Lucene project. But it seems that the increasing rate of popularity
of .NET trigger developers to make a similar version of it for .NET Platform.
Lucene is a free java based term and document indexing service. This module is bringing
us to develop a smart document or anyhing retrieval system. I'm giving the link

Last night i was serching the new album of Cranberries.
It took so much time and last i've downloaded it. (Are you listening). The new album
is not an album of Cranberries due to the divergence of the group. cranberriesclub.com

This is my first blog page up to now. Instead of using a regular blogger web site,
i preffered an original one, that i coded. This blog will contain some details
of my life and work experiences.
Let me start! This week i'm working on a project like YouTube. But this project
will serve not only video, but also pdfs,ppts, docs, and etc.. And also i'm searching
for a component which converts the avi files to swf of fla files in realtime. By
the time i'll search codes or components for PDF file extraction for gathering pure
text data in the file.
System will provide a service for users to seek a file which contains query words
and list them on the page. User will download or see it online on the page. At this
step we'll get help from Flash Paper 2. In the near future i'm planning to make
an information retrieval subsystem for this web application. So this will gain us
a very talented slide, movie and document retrieval system. The site will be in
English and name is chosen as sciencebank.net so we will make a design and implemantation for this name.
